Susan L. Spence Partner

Susan L. Spence is a transactions partner at Gebhardt & Smith, where she represents commercial lenders for small and middle-market commercial real estate and asset-based loans, both at loan origination and, in the case of troubled loans, in workout.

Her experience includes representing for profit and non-profit lenders financing affordable housing, revitalization area and other private/public partnership projects, involving local, state, federal and private funding sources, financing of continuing care retirement communities, and public financing, including tax-exempt and taxable bonds, for housing projects and various types of health care projects (hospitals, nursing homes and continuing care retirement communities).

Susan earned a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she was Associate Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Advocacy. Susan earned a B.S. degree in English from Towson University, where she was a Varsity Swimmer. She has continued to swim throughout her career, most recently pursuing open-water distance swimming, including both The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim (4.4 miles) and Baltimore’s Swim Across America (3 miles).
