Mark A. Gaspar Partner

Mark is a partner at Gebhardt & Smith whose clients include insurance companies, national banking associations, regional banks and real estate investment companies. His practice includes the representation of commercial lenders in connection with a variety of commercial real estate finance transactions, including office, retail, industrial, hotel and franchise financing, and the representation of real estate investment companies in connection with the acquisition, financing and sale of income producing properties. He has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of permanent real estate loans and real estate construction loans. 

His practice has also included the representation of commercial lenders and borrowers in connection with a wide variety of finance transactions, including asset based financing, asset and stock based acquisitions and equipment financing. He has significant experience negotiating and documenting relationships between creditors, including participation, intercreditor and subordination agreements.

Mark also provides services to the firm’s clients relating to the resolution of troubled loans, including out-of-court restructurings. He has significant experience in the acquisition of properties by foreclosure or deed in lieu of foreclosure, and the negotiation and sale of REO properties by commercial lenders.    

Mark graduated from the Honors Program of Fordham University in 1980, where he received a bachelor of science degree in Biological Sciences. He received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1984, where he graduated in the top six percent of his class and served as an editor of the Maryland Law Review. He joined Gebhardt & Smith in 1986, after serving a judicial clerkship in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
